It is first and foremost the birds you see and hear on the trail up to Prestaksla, but if you are lucky, you can get a glimpse of some of the mammals which stay here. They may be in the area, but usually stay well hidden. If you walk quietly and carefully, early in the morning or late in the evening, you may increase your chances of meeting them.
The deer are among the most common animals in this area and thrive in steep terrain. They stay around Prestaksla throughout the whole year. In the winter the deer graze on twigs, blueberry bushes, and bark. In the summer they graze on grass and herbs. The male animals - the stags - have antlers which grow larger each year until they are 8-12 years old. The female deer do not have antlers.
The elk and the roe deer are of the same species as the deer and stay in the forest along the path.
If you are fortunate you can see the squirrel jumping in the trees looking for seeds and nuts. With its bushy tail as a steering organ it easily jumps from tree to tree.
The red fox, stoat and pine marten can be observed, but more rarely. Sometimes even the lynx can be observed roaming by.
